The focus on and boldness of the words Self Reliance create a feeling of stability, as opposed to economic opportunity. The angle in which the sign was shot also draws emphasis on the importance of self-reliance.
Cultural; If this development causes residences to loose water rights because developers are not able to collect in cisterns enough water to support a 14 acre development including a botanical garden as they claim.Then It is likely that the agricultural benefits that residence have built their life's around will be lost thus drastically changing their ability to be self reliant.
Temporal; Residences would trade self reliance for the lore of tax dollars. urbanization and a loss of a self sufficient life style is a likely result.
